Parents play an important role in the whole-person development of their young children. The Education Bureau (EDB) has all along been supporting home-school co-operation, forging home-school partnership and promoting parent education through kindergartens (KGs), primary and secondary schools (including special schools). With a view to meeting the changing needs of parents, and equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for bringing up healthy, happy and well-balanced young children, the EDB has issued a curriculum framework for parent education – the “Curriculum Framework on Parent Education (Kindergarten) (2021)”.
Early childhood is the golden period for language development. Parents play a pivotal role in the language development of their young children. To encourage and support kindergartens to implement curricula and/or organise activities promoting parent education and home-school cooperation on language development of young children, the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) has developed a series of short videos for parent education on Chinese and English language and literacy development of young children entitled 「幼兒語文家FUN站」(Chinese version only), funded by the Language Fund. The aim of the series is to enhance young children or kindergarten students’ parents’ understanding of and involvement in Chinese and English language and literacy development of their young children.
