In the January 2017 Policy Address, the Government invited SCOLAR to consider making use of the Language Fund to introduce Chinese and English language enhancement programmes for kindergarten teachers, including teaching strategies for teaching Chinese language to non-Chinese speaking children, to facilitate the implementation of the Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide from the 2017/18 school year onwards. SCOLAR has invited the post-secondary or tertiary institutions which currently offer early childhood education (teacher training) programmes to develop and organise the Chinese and English Language Enhancement Programme for Kindergarten Teachers (the Programme), and will fully subsidise serving principals and teachers of kindergartens joining the Kindergarten Education Scheme to undertake the Programme. The Programme may be offered to other local kindergartens which practise the local Kindergarten curriculum when resources are available.
