The Education Bureau launched the English Enhancement Grant Scheme for Primary Schools in 2009 to provide a time-limited grant to primary schools for adopting school-based English enhancement measures.
Schools were encouraged to use the additional resources to build up their capacity for raising students' English proficiency and to achieve sustainable effects after the completion of the scheme. All aided, government or Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) primary schools (including special schools with primary section) may apply. The actual amount of grant for each school would depend on individual schools' proposals and implementation strategies and the maximum grant was $500,000.
The Scheme was open for application in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and was completed in 2014.
