Award-winning students share their experiences in Young Reporters Programme
The Standing Committee for Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) today (11 April) invites the public to join an experience-sharing session with award-winning student reporters, photographers, columnists and feature writers scheduled for 23 April (Saturday).
The session will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Exhibition Hall, 3/F, Morning Post Centres, 22 Dai Fat Street, Tai Po Industrial Estates, New Territories. It will be conducted in English and admission is free.
The event is part of the Newspaper Show-n-Tell by SCMP Young Post Student Reporters Programme staged by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) in support of the first English Festival organised by the SCOLAR during April and May.
During the sharing-session, award-winning students of the Programme will share their experience of being a reporter, photographer or an editor for the very first time, and to "show and tell" the audience their winning newspapers. SCMP will offer advice on newspaper production and arrange a guided tour of its plant for participants.

The SCMP Young Reporters Programme was launched last year to promote English writing in a fun and interactive way. A total of 220 students from 44 secondary schools participated in a series of workshops, seminars and real life reporting to produce a single edition of school newspaper in English at the end of the Programme.
Five group winners and 12 individual winners were selected by a judging panel comprising Permanent Secretary for Education and Manpower, Mrs Fanny Law, Head of News and Public Affairs of Commercial Radio, Ms May Chan, South China Morning Post Director – Editorial, Mr David Armstrong, and his colleagues in the editorial team.
Funded by the Language Fund, the English Festival 2005 raises public interest in the learning and use of English through different activities, ranging from drama performances and workshops, skipping with rhyme competitions, debating, poetry writing, spelling competitions, newspaper editing seminars, to television programmes on the use of English.
Established in 1996, SCOLAR advises the Government on language education issues and the use of the Language Fund.
