As an international city that features multiculturalism and the blending of the East and the West, and being one of the component cities of the Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong needs to enable its people to recognise the importance of biliteracy and trilingualism. Since its establishment in 1996, SCOLAR has in fact been complementing the efforts of the Government to enable the people of Hong Kong to become biliterate and trilingual. To raise the public's awareness of the importance of biliteracy and trilingualism further, the Education Bureau and SCOLAR have just launched the five-month-long Biliteracy and Trilingualism Campaign (from December 2023 to May 2024). The highlights of the Campaign include: (i) a one-minute video production competition (inviting applications from 1 December 2023 to 7 March 2024); (ii) a series of activities organised by SCOLAR's programme partners for the school sector and community between December 2023 and May 2024; (iii) the production of promotional videos of 5 episodes by Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) for promoting the importance of biliteracy and trilingualism in various fields (to be broadcast in December 2023 and January 2024); and (iv) the production of another video series of 8 episodes by NOW TV for exploring the use of biliteracy and triligualism by people from various walks of life (to be broadcast in February and March 2024). An opening ceremony was held on 19 December 2023 and a closing ceremony was held on 23 May 2024.
