During the Biliteracy and Trilingualism Campaign, the community partners of Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) organised a series of diverse activities that were well received by over 2 000 students from kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, as well as community members. Write Up! Flash Story Competition
Hosted by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Write Up! Flash Story Competition encouraged primary and secondary school students as well as community members to create bilingual micro-stories within three to five sentences and 150 words in Chinese and English, which vividly described scenes from everyday life. The competition promoted a culture of reading and writing, and enhanced the public’s interest in learning both Chinese and English.
Voices of Putonghua: Dubbing Competition
Voices of Putonghua: Dubbing Competition was organised by the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education. Supported by Phoenix Television, a series of Cantonese version videos telling Hong Kong stories were provided to the contestants from both student and adult categories as voice-over materials. They utilised Putonghua to voice over the selected clips, showing different moments and stories of everyday life in Hong Kong in an engaging manner, and demonstrating practical use of Putonghua.
Hong Kong Local Food and Traditional Festival Check-ins - Chinese Learning Activity for NCS Students
This activity, organised by the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education, focused on Hong Kong's culinary culture and traditional festivals. With an aim of deepening participants’ understanding and appreciation of the beauty of Hong Kong society, as well as the positive values of traditional Chinese culture, non-Chinese speaking students read short passages or watched short videos each week and completed the related online exercises over a span of 13 weeks. Outstanding students of the activity performed a short drama at the closing ceremony of the Campaign to recreate the environment of a Hong Kong tea restaurant and introduce its unique culture and language.
The 19th Hong Kong Kindergarten and Primary School Putonghua Competition
Organised by the Xianggang Putonghua Yanxishe, the competition selected recitation materials which were closed to students' daily lives and encouraged students to express the beauty of life through Putonghua recitation, while fostering the transmission of Chinese culture by learning and using Putonghua.
Rugby English Active Learning Programme
The Rugby English Active Learning programme hosted by the Rugby For Good Foundation aimed to provide local students with opportunities and environments for learning and using English as well as enhancing their confidence in English communication. By learning the non-contact rugby skills in English and reading related English texts, the students developed an interest in the rugby game with a better understanding about its core values, including discipline, teamwork and respect.
