The Opening Ceremony of the Campaign, officiated by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr CHAN Kwok-ki; the Secretary for Education, Dr CHOI Yuk-lin; and the Chairperson of SCOLAR, Dr Anissa CHAN, was successfully held on 19 December 2023 at the Lecture Theatre of the Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre. Around 400 guests from academia, business sector and community groups attended the Opening Ceremony.
Representatives from the Hong Kong Hotels Association, the Hong Kong Retail Management Association, the Hong Kong Association of Registered Tour Co-ordinators, and the MTR Corporation shared with the audience the importance of biliteracy and trilingualism in different fields and professions.
The Opening Ceremony also saw the participation of several ambassadors of the Biliteracy and Trilingualism Campaign, including Minnie SOO Wai-yam who won a bronze medal for Hong Kong in the Women’s Table Tennis Team competition at the last Olympic Games; Vice-principal of Law Ting Pong Secondary School Dr Rizwan ULLAH; and Christine CAPPIO, a French lady who published Chinese books. The three ambassadors shared their experiences in learning and using Chinese and English during a lively chit-chat session.
