SCOLAR and the Education Bureau (EDB) co-organised the 2019 World Book Day Fest (the Fest) on 27 April 2019 (Saturday). Themed on "Towards a Reading City: Folktaleoscope", the Fest aimed at fostering a sustainable reading atmosphere and culture in the city, nurturing students' reading interest and helping them develop a reading habit from young.

Programme Content
- Welcoming speech by Mr HUANG Lester Garson, J.P., Chairman of SCOLAR
- Opening address by Mr YEUNG Yun-hung, Kevin, J.P., Secretary for Education
- Sharing of reading experience by young people of different backgrounds (including ethnic minorities in Hong Kong)
- "The Joy of Reading" where students put up performances in Cantonese, Putonghua or English
- "Folktales Alfresco" where secondary school students presented storytelling or drama performances to share the joy and inspirations derived from reading folktales
- Parallel sessions were conducted to share experience on how schools, parents as well as government and non-governmental organisations promote reading across the city
- Student activity sessions and a language orienteering challenge were organised for primary and secondary students
- Creative and inspirational game booths revolving around folktales of different cultures were run to allow students to discover the collective wisdom of ordinary folk
- Principals of primary and secondary schools donated books for sharing the joy of reading with participants; and
- Book exhibition was organised for the display of various interesting books and resources for leisure reading of students at kindergarten, primary and secondary levels.
