English Language Enhancement Programme for Kindergarten Teachers

Objectives

This short course (40 hours) for kindergarten teachers aims at –

  • improving kindergarten teachers' understanding of early English language and literacy development/learning of young children;
  • enhancing kindergarten teachers' English language proficiency and equipping them with essential English language skills for conducting English language activities in class; and
  • boosting the confidence and competence of kindergarten teachers in pedagogies of exposing young children to English in integrated/thematic approach.

Content

  • Introduction to second language acquisition (English Language) of young children
  • Early English language and literacy development/learning of young children
  • English language subject knowledge and skills of teachers, including but not limited to, phonics and pronunciation, grammar, connected speech and classroom English
  • Effective English language teaching strategies for exposing young children to English
  • Design, implementation and evaluation of developmentally-appropriate English language activities for young children
  • Interface between the kindergartens and primary schools in English language education in local context

 

English Language Enhancement Programme for Kindergarten Principals

Objectives

This 30-hour short course for kindergarten principals aims at –

  • improving kindergarten principals' understanding of early English language and literacy development/learning of young children; and
  • enhancing the capability of kindergarten principals in devising their school plan and pedagogies of exposing young children to English in integrated/thematic approach.

Content

  • Introduction to second language acquisition (English Language) of young children
  • Early English language and literacy development/learning of young children
  • Effective English language teaching strategies and developmentally-appropriate English language activities for young children
  • Design, implementation and evaluation of school plan of English language exposure of young children in integrated/thematic approach
  • Interface between the kindergartens and primary schools in English language education in local context
