Following the well-received TV programme "Say No to 'laan5 jam1' ", the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) will give its full support to the Metro Radio on a second wave to promote proper Cantonese pronunciation.
A SCOLAR spokesperson said today (15 November), "SCOLAR strives to facilitate local residents to become biliterate and trilingual. We encourage people to pronounce words in Cantonese properly without 'lazy articulation' for better communication with other people."
Supported by SCOLAR, Metro Radio has produced 20 segments to introduce some Chinese words that may easily cause the problem of "lazy articulation" in Cantonese. Metro's DJs also appear in the segments to demonstrate how these words should be properly pronounced.
The segments are now broadcast daily on Metro Finance and Metro Showbiz until 11 December. For the detailed broadcasting schedule, please refer to SCOLAR website at http://www.language-education.com.
Established in 1996, SCOLAR advises the Government on language education issues and on the use of the Language Fund.
