As part of its annual Putonghua Festival, dramas in Putonghua will be staged by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) at shopping malls and primary schools from now until 4 December.
The roving drama, conducted mainly in Putonghua, features a team of warriors (the five "Finger Warriors") who must strive to improve their proficiency in Putonghua in order to defeat the evil Language Monster who always attempts to stir up trouble with language barriers between people. It demonstrates the importance of mastering Putonghua to avoid miscommunications.
The drama's debut is scheduled at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow (9 October) at Oi Tung Shopping Centre, Shau Kei Wan. All members of the public are welcome to join the audience.
Funded by the Language Fund, SCOLAR has been organising large-scale activities to promote Putonghua since 2002. This year's Putonghua Festival features 16 activities for both students and members of the public to raise their awareness of the importance of Putonghua and to provide them with more opportunities to learn and use the language.
Established in 1996, SCOLAR advises the Government on language education issues and the use of the Language Fund.
