The Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) announced today (15 March) the call for applications for grant to organise large-scale Putonghua promotion activities.
"Since its inception, SCOLAR has spared no effort in promoting the learning and use of Putonghua by encouraging and sponsoring relevant activities for students and the community. In particular, SCOLAR, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Putonghua League, has organised campaigns to promote Putonghua on an annual basis since 2002, featuring some 40 activities which attracted more than 220 000 participants", a spokesman for SCOLAR said.
"In view of the overwhelming response, SCOLAR has decided to expand the scale of the Putonghua promotional activities from individual projects that last for several months to a year-long programme covering the entire school year. Local organisations with relevant experience and qualifications are invited to apply for grants to organise large-scale non-profit-making activities in 2005/06 school year with a view to raising the Putonghua proficiency of the general public and students by providing more opportunities for them to use and practise the language," he added.
