The Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) invites proposals for grants to organise territory-wide activities for promotion of Putonghua in 2008/09. The submission deadline is 25 September (Thursday).
A spokesperson for SCOLAR said today (16 September), "Applicants for grants should aim to arouse public and students' interest in the learning and use of Putonghua. Priority will be given to activities which could allow participants to use and practise the language in the daily environment."
"The activities, to be conducted between 2008 and 2009, should be open to the public, students and/or teachers. Proposals targeting specific districts, occupations, organisations, communities, or societies will not be considered," she added.
There will be no pre-set form for applications. Interested parties are advised to read through the attached guidelines (in Chinese) prior to submitting their proposals which should be written in Chinese. The proposals should reach the SCOLAR Support Unit at Room 1702, 17/F Skyline Tower, 39 Wang Kwong Road, Kowloon Bay, Kowloon (Attn: Project Co-ordinator (3)) by 6:00 p.m. on 25 September.

SCOLAR has been organising activities to promote Putonghua since 2002. Over the years, over 60 activities have been organised and attracted more than 300 000 participants.
Established in 1996, SCOLAR advises the Government on language education issues and the use of the Language Fund.
