Forty secondary schools tell their HK stories in SCOLAR's Putonghua Short Play Marathon
Students from 40 secondary schools will present a marathon performance of relay drama acts at the upcoming Putonghua Short Play Marathon.
Organised by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR), the event is part of the committee's Putonghua Festival 2004 which will climax with a variety show on 28 November 2004.
"Performing students were coached in terms of Putonghua proficiency, theatrical performance and backstage administration for two months by the Theatre Space, a local troupe of dedicated performers. Students were then expected to produce their own act of a play of about five to 10 minutes in length, which were then glued together by the Theatre Space to become the composite drama to be staged," explained a SCOLAR spokesperson today (19 November).
"The public would experience the routine of our daily life from a very different perspective, that through the eyes of a group of teenagers."
The relay performance will run at the Tsing Yi Promenade, Tsing Yi, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. this coming Sunday (21 November). Members of the public are all encouraged to join the audience.

Funded by the Language Fund, SCOLAR has been organising large-scale activities to promote Putonghua on an annual basis since 2002 to raise people's awareness of the importance of Putonghua and to provide them with more opportunities to learn and use the language.
Established in 1996, SCOLAR advises the Government on language education issues and the use of the Language Fund.
